What you need to know

Offering an incredible wildlife experience in the heart of central New South Wales, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, or as it's commonly known; Dubbo Zoo, is an ideal destination for wildlife lovers of all ages. With an open plan layout, giving the animals enough room to comfortably roam about, you could easily spend the whole day wandering around the park to see all of its incredible animals.

There is a scenic 6 kilometre track marked out around the zoo to take you to more than one hundred animals that live in the natural bushland. There are also a number of shows and talks by keepers to teach visitors about a number of their animals. Some of these talks include the meerkat, elephant, lion, and koala talk. Additionally, you can watch the animals being served their lunch; including the Sumatran tiger, tortoise, hippopotamous and black rhino.

If you're looking to get up close and personal with the animals, you can purchase an encounter, which are held during park hours. Offering the chance to encounter some of the big cats, the animals living in Wild Africa, and meerkats.
